| I just finished swapping in a rebuilt steering rack and SPL outer tie rods. Now I'm a bit confused... When I removed my old steering rack, the driver side outer tie rod was in 16 turns. The passenger side tie rod was in 12 turns. Apparently this configuration produced a nearly perfect cross toe alignment with a small amount of toe in. Tire wear was never very bad. After throwing in the new rack, I realized I had to reset center. With a bit of trial and error, I centered the lower u-joint so that there are a little more than 1.5 steering wheel turns from center to each lock. With the rack re-centered, the PS wheel was oddly toed in more than the driver side. After turning the PS tie rod in 4 times (to match the DS), both wheels appear fairly straight. My question: Is there a "default" value for tie rod turns assuming that everything else is perfectly straight? I wonder if something on my tie rods or rack was off. 4 turns is quite a lot of toe!
